After introducing our company we explained why our shelter is the best. We also explained why we chose the materials for our shelter and why we chose the shape.

Lastly we were given our feedback from the clients of our presentation.

Our feedback from our clients is we didn't explain more about the shelter. We didn’t show our cardboard model during our presentation. And our last feedback was about how we didn’t talk about poles that were stuck in the ground. Next time i need to explain more about my shelter.

Faulty reasoning

For reading we did Faulty reasoning. There are five faulty reasoning: Illogical /simplified/Assumption, Circular Reasoning, Over-generalization, Biased Argument and Contradiction.

Illogical /simplified/Assumption means Providing evidence that does not directly support the claim.

Circular Reasoning means supporting a claim with the same claim.

Over-generalization means making a global statement when there are likely exceptions.

Biased Argument means making a claim that is influenced by your own personal feelings or experience.

Contradiction means providing evidence that goes against the original argument.

The first activity is putting the right text quote and the reasoning to the right faulty reasons.

The second activity was a guess. We had to put five faulty reasons to the right reasons. For example: The school uniforms are ugly because they are just not attractive is a Circular Reasoning.

The last activity. Was to make our own faulty reasoning. We find five reasons in the book and had to put in the right faulty reasons. For example: We know that the only reason you do not let us use the restroom is because you just want us to suffer it is Illogical /simplified/Assumption.

Inquiry

LI: to prepare materials order for construction

Different types of shelters can keep people safe by using the correct materials depending on what disaster

They are being protected from.
When building a shelter, measuring the amount of materials being used is important so it keeps it balanced.

An example of materials used for a tsunami shelter are concrete, chicken wire, metal ties, aluminum, popsicle sticks, steel door, and hard clear plastic.

Using chicken wire is good for putting in the concrete so it can connect it to the other sides.

Hard clear plastic can be used for the windows because it doesn’t break easily like glass and because it's transparent which allows people to see what's happening on the outside.

popsicle sticks are good for supporting the force of the impact. This material can also be used to anchor the shelter into the ground so it doesn’t tip over. The properties of wood are the shape that has been made.

Not every material can support every natural disaster.

Maths

This week We learned how to average the athletics points.

Average is adding up all the number and Multiply the athletics points by how much points there are. The teams red, green, blue and yellow get points. First place 4 points, second place 3 points, third place 2 point and last place 1 points.

We had to find the average of 178 But if we use the average button  on google sheet and the answer is divide 9 it equal 19.77777778. we need to make it short so we have had to take out the 8 and the six seven. That means it 19.7.

Then we have to write our prior knowledge. For example: This ant is dangerous.

LI. To skim and scan.

Insulators

LI: to learn and practise experimental methods.
LI: to determine the absorbency of different materials using experimental methods.

Insulators are used to stop heat from moving place to place. Five materials were tested for the ability to insulate:glass ,plastic ,metal ,paper and polystyrene.

The best insulator for keeping things warm was polystyrene

The best insulator for keeping things cool was glass.

The best with warm and cool was polystyrene.

Lastly we get to eat marshmallow and biscuits with chocolate sauce. we get 3 marshmallow and cook them in the fire pit then we get two biscuits and make a s'mores and you can add chocolate sauce into your s"more.

Lastly we wrote down three situations for each risk level and what might be the consequences and the emergency plan.

I learn how to make a safe play about the fire pit and making snores.

Maths

Rounding is a math strategy that uses addition and division strategies.Rounding means to circle it to the nearest ten, hundred, thousands, and more

Addition and division are both operations. That are used for rounding. To round, the person needs to find the mean, to find the mean get a set of numbers like 5,7,1,9,3 and then add them altogether which would make 25. Then divide them by the amount of numbers there are which makes 5.

This strategies help me to add and divide.

LI - to investigate units of time.

Inquiry

LI: to assess risk within a simple activity.

For inquiry we did a group activity about safety plans.

First me and my group made a safety plan about the activity, how many helpers should there be ,the class level, where the location is in PBS and how many students were taking part in the event.

Next we came up with multiple consequences that could happen in a sports event. One of the consequences that we came up with was a student colliding with another student.

Lastly we made a emergency plan. If someone did a Risk. For example: Stop the event and find the missing student.

There is 5 situations on risk levels like, low, likely, possible, elevated and extreme.
I found this tasks hard because there is to many questions. I can't answers.

Text to Self refers to making a link between actions, feelings or themes that you have experienced yourself.

Text to World refers to linking the themes or author's purpose to things happening in the world.

Rounding|Maths

Rounding is a math strategy that uses addition and division strategies.Rounding means to circle it to the nearest ten, hundred, thousands, and more.

Addition and division are both operations the are used for rounding. To round, the person needs to find the mean, to find the mean get a set of numbers like 5,7,1,9,3 and then add them altogether which would make 25. Then divide them by the amount of numbers there are which makes 5.

Here comes the rounding part comes in so if the numbers are 5-9 they are called high five and the numbers that are 0-4 they are called four floor. Look for the last digit. Example: 21.85 now becomes 21.9 because 5 is above.

LI investigate units of time.

Reading

LI:to infer.
First we did fact and opinion for each animals. Fact is in the story and opinion is an inference about the fact.

Finally we did character trait we inference the character. We use adjective to describe the character.

Character trait is describing the character.

I now understand fact and opinion.

Writing

LI-To write a setting description
Setting description is creating the pictures in your head about what the character place looks like, smells like and sounds like.

To describe the picture in the background use adjectives. For Example:Tall brown trees, green rocks, twigs, grass and logs.

To describe the smell use adjectives like: Pine trees, animals, and dirt.

Describing the feel like about touching something for Explain: Cold, wet, and scary.

And the sound use adjective like : birds chirping ,animals barking.

This can help you create a pictures in your head and know the story better.

Hazards and Risks

LI: to assess the likelihood

For inquiry we learnt how to assess risks.

First we rated situations on risk levels like, low, likely, possible, elevated and extreme. For example, the situation “ using a lighter to check if the lawnmower has petrol” is extreme risk level.

Lastly we wrote down three situations for each risk level and what might be the consequences.

I learnt how to use common sense in risky situations and how to practise safety to avoid danger.

Thursday, 3 September 2020

The Gruffalo

LI: to compare products using reciprocal reading

The Legend of Rahi

LI-summarising using visualising and inferencing

This week we were learning to summersing.

We also needed to link visualisation and inferencing to help us.

We filled in a story web to summarise each part of the story.

I used my visualisation from week 1 to help separate the parts of the story.

I used my character inference traits to used adjective and evidence to help summersing different part using good adjective unlock meaningful information and I can summarise quicker. Connecting all 3 strategies helped me to understand the story characters and keywords.
