Decimals

This week we did maths about decimals. First we answer twenty questions about decimals. For examples 2.7 + 0.8= 3.5. Then when we done all of are questions we mark.Lastly I learned how to add and takeaway decimals.

Water Safety

This week I did water safety. Water safety are swimming rules to keep us save from the water.

First we did a DLO about keep childs save from the water. The question were what do you know about water satefy, how might you get in trouble about the water, what do you do if you get in trouble in the water, What advice would you give to a child under 6 to keep them safe when swimming?, why is it imporatant to be safe in the water, Why is this really important for NZ kids? Lastly we made a paragraph about water safety.

Tech

To do the experiment, First, use a marker and label each item you will be testing. Measure about 4 or 5 drops of each item into the well plate and mark it for that item. Get a litmus paper and put both litmus paper blue and red at the same time, to see the result.

Acids And Base.

What is ph?

Ph is the measurement of how acidic and base water is

How do you measure ph?

The pH value can be measured using electrochemical measuring systems, litmus paper, or indicators and colorimeters.

What is the scale pH is measured on?

pH is a measure of how acidic/basic water is. The range goes from 0 - 14, with 7 being neutral. pHs of less than 7 indicate acidity, whereas a pH of greater than 7 indicates a base

What ph level does water have is water acidic?

Neutral

What is the most acidic ph level?

0 is the most acidic level

What is the most basic ph level?

14 is the most alkaline level.

-----------------------------------------------------------

If there is more hydrogen ion it is acidic, and if there is more hydroxyl ions it means it is alkaline. 6 is the weakest acid and 8 is the weakest alkaline. Hydrochloric acid is the acid that helps digest the food you eat.

----------------------------------------------

Aim or purpose: Test the pH levels in different household products

Task 2:
Pour 150 cm in the beaker.
Put food coloring in the beaker.
Put the celery into the beaker and wait.
Now cover the celery with a plastic bag.
Wait for half an hour or more, the more longer you leave the celery in there the more water it will absorb

Matariki Brochure

LI: To strengthen our connections to Matariki

This week we did a brochure about matariki.

First we did a brochure about the nine stars. It was about what each matariki star represents and how can we celebrated matariki.

Then we did another brochure about what is Matariki, where can we see the Matariki stars .

Matariki

LI: To strengthen our connections to Matariki.

Matariki is the Maori new year celebration. It takes places each year when the cluster of stars known as Matariki are seen in our skies. The new year is a time for new beginnings and is a time to embrace tradition.

To strengthen our connections to Matariki we had a choice of research activities.

I found out that matariki stars -cames bewteen 5.30 to 6.30.

I enjoyed This activity because I learn lots of facts about matariki

Maori

This week for maori we learn about different names places and translate them into engilsh. First we had to translate the moari names places into engilsh.

Then when we finished we guess if these places are south or nouth or ika or waka.

Bubble tech

For tech we learned about bubbles. We learn how to stack bubbles .

First we had to fill 250 ml on a beaker half full.Wieght 5 grams of sugar stir into the unti the sugar is dissolved.

Then measure 3 mls of glycerol and Measure 10mls detergent. Then Stir the contents in the beaker so all ingredients are thoroughly mixed thought.

Lastly we had to stack the bubbles we made stick and grab a straw then blow it then you can stack it.

Organizing and Researching

LI: To use our smart searching skills to expand our knowledge of Ancient Greek Mythology

Today David shared his reading challenge with us. It is all about the Greek gods and helps us to practise the skills we have been learning in our reading lessons with our teachers.

David created this task as part of his CARE award challenges. We earn CARE award badges in year 7 and 8 to show that we understand our school values. In this activity we used our smart searching skills to find information to help us complete the table.

I found this activity good for david care awards.

The Greek god I found most interesting was zues because he the god of wind

Fraction

This week for maths we did fraction Fractions represent equal parts of a whole or a collection.
First we had to partener up with someone then we had to do fraction we started easy with are 1 fraction. Then when we finish the one fraction we go even harder on are ten fraction.I learn lots of fraction.
